Selling across borders adds three jobs to a normal online store: showing prices in the right currency, translating the store and the support inbox, and handling duties and tax. This guide sorts the AI tools by those jobs, says what each vendor states on its own pricing pages, and ends with a short method for choosing.
Disclosure: GlobalSell's publisher sells on Shopify and Amazon and uses Klaviyo, and all three appear in this guide. This guide contains no affiliate links.
How this guide was built: it draws on the vendors' own pricing and help pages, read on September 20, 2026. We have not hands-on tested every product, so we give no ratings or scores. Where a vendor's page doesn't state something, we say so instead of guessing.
1. Your store: Shopify
Shopify's core plans are Basic at $29 a month, Grow at $79 and Advanced at $299 on yearly billing (monthly billing is $39, $105 and $399). Plus starts at $2,300 a month. New stores get 3 days free, then $1 a month for 3 months.
The Sidekick AI assistant is included on every plan. So are the cross-border basics: storefront translation, Shopify Markets, and duties and taxes estimation. Local-currency prices and local payment methods need Shopify Payments, and online international card payments add 1% on every plan. Shopify labels Advanced "for global reach" and it adds the option to tailor your store by region, along with lower card rates (2.5% + 30¢ versus 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic). If you use a third-party payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a fee of 2% on Basic, dropping to 0.2% on Plus.
2. Translation: DeepL
DeepL's free version allows 50,000 characters a month. Paid plans start with Individual at €7.49 a month billed annually (300,000 characters), Team at €24.99 per user (1,000,000 characters) and Business at €49.99 per user (unlimited under a fair usage policy). Individual and Team include a 30-day free trial, and DeepL states that paid plans don't train on your data.
Those euro prices include VAT and are what DeepL showed for Germany. DeepL displays prices by region, so you may see a different amount or currency.
3. Customer support: Gorgias
Gorgias is a helpdesk built for ecommerce and Shopify. Its helpdesk tiers start at $10 a month and scale from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month, and it never prices per agent. Tickets past your limit cost $0.40 each on the smaller tiers and $0.36 on the larger ones.
The AI Agent is on every plan, and you pay only when it resolves a conversation: about $0.90 per resolved conversation on most plans and $1 on Starter, with $1.50 for interactions past your plan's allowance. It supports multiple languages. Before you commit, ask Gorgias directly whether an AI-resolved conversation also counts against your ticket limit, because that changes the real cost.
4. Email and SMS: Klaviyo
Klaviyo's free plan covers up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, with full email support for the first 60 days. Paid plans scale with your list, and Klaviyo shows the price on a slider on its pricing page, so check it against your own list size. Third-party reviews say the price is set by active profiles, which means a clean list costs less. Klaviyo also runs regional pricing pages for Germany, Australia, the UK, Singapore, Spain, France and Italy.
5. Marketplace listings: Amazon
Amazon's generative AI can draft a product listing in Seller Central from a short description, a product image, your own product-page URL (only if you own or license that content), or an uploaded catalog file. Amazon encourages sellers to review the generated content before submitting it. Amazon's pages don't state a separate cost for the tool.
6. Design, automation and an assistant
These three are covered in our small-business AI guide. In short: Canva Pro is $144 a year for one person and Canva Business is $250 a year per person. Zapier's Free plan gives 100 tasks a month and Professional starts at $19.99 a month on yearly billing. ChatGPT Business is $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, with a two-seat minimum.
If you sell across borders: what to check
- Currency: Zapier's pricing page lets you pay in about 19 currencies. OpenAI says ChatGPT Business prices vary by country. DeepL shows euro prices for Germany.
- Language: Canva's AI supports more than a dozen languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Hindi and Chinese. Shopify includes storefront translation on every plan, and Gorgias's AI Agent supports multiple languages.
- Tax: Shopify includes duties and taxes estimation on every plan. Canva and Google state that their listed prices exclude tax, and DeepL's European prices include VAT, so compare like with like.
How to choose
- Start where the sales happen. Set up your store platform's built-in translation, currency and tax features before adding tools.
- Translate the words before you buy more traffic. Product pages and support replies in the buyer's language are the basics.
- Check billing currency and tax. Compare prices on the same basis (annual or monthly, with or without tax).
- Price support by volume. Count your monthly tickets and ask how AI resolutions are billed.
- Price email by list size. Check Klaviyo's slider against your own list, and keep the list clean.
- Pilot the free tiers first. DeepL Free, Klaviyo Free and Canva Free cost nothing.
A starting stack at list price: Shopify Basic on yearly billing is $29 a month, and DeepL Free, Klaviyo Free and Canva Free add nothing. That's $29 a month before payment-processing fees, and Shopify's first 3 months are $1 a month for new stores.
FAQ
Do I need a paid translation tool? Not to start. Shopify includes storefront translation on every plan, and DeepL's free version allows 50,000 characters a month. Paid DeepL plans add larger limits, file translation and no data training.
Which support tool should I pick? Choose by ticket volume. Gorgias's tiers run from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month, so count yours first.
